Judith Ritchie, The Nelson Mail, 12 February 2015
Lisa Chandler and Emma Panting are both finalists in the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Awards 2015. From 370 entries Judge Dr Anne Kirker has selected 50 finalist artworks. The $20,000 prize is sponsored by the Philip Vela Family Trust who also purchase the winning artwork for their collection. Chandler’s work, China Dream, was created in Beijing, while she was at the Red Gate Artist Residency programme last year. The painting explores the differences and tensions between place and non-place, and the old and the new, key concepts in Chandler’s art practice.
The winner will be announced tomorrow, with the exhibition running at the Hamilton Gardens Art Festival from February 14 to February 26.
